Venue:
Packard 202
Speaker:
Yewon Gim - Senior Member of Technical Staff - AT&T Foundry
Abstract / Description:

Quantum technology started to emerge out of the labs and into the interest of industrial corporations over the past 5 years. However, the road to a commercial quantum product remains elusive. In this talk, I will give the status of quantum networks as an emerging technology in the connectivity market. I will describe why the quantum network is an exciting technology and what are the main challenges that lie ahead to realize a commercial quantum network in both technology and quantum community point of view.

Bio:

Yewon Gim is leading INQNET (Intelligent Quantum Network) technical projects at the AT&T Palo Alto Foundry. She utilizes her physics background to investigate quantum technology space and work on projects that help bring quantum technology to provide novel industry solutions. Her research focuses on connecting quantum devices and new quantum-classical protocol to enhance existing technologies. She is also a visiting research staff at the California Institute of technology and is jointly working with the Caltech team on developing a quantum network. Yewon graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign with a Physics Ph.D.
