Where technology inflection points come from

Abstract: 

Three huge technology disruptions in the century-long existence of the electronic age were responses to scaling challenges. This talk will describe triggers for the fourth disruption, which is in progress now. Where will it take us? Prediction is notoriously inaccurate, but since history seems at least to rhyme, understanding what provoked the previous discontinuities is our best guide to the outlines of likely futures.
