Gradually, and then all at once, the Metaverse is in everyone's newsfeed. It's a new idea full of promise for a glorious future enabled by new developments in technology! (not really). Hopefully, it's also not the dystopian future portrayed in science fiction novels of 30 years ago. What can we learn from the OG metaverse?

* A view of where Second Life is today - in terms of numbers, communities, experiences, and future possibilities,
* an overview of the early days and some discussion of how it has evolved over time, shaped by advances in technology and changes in law
* what drives the renewed interest in the #metaverse, its promise and peril
* how technological innovations impact direction
* how do virtual economies work? What is the value of UGC?
* Wider social implications of current and future business models.
