The growth of IoT devices has led to a dramatic increase in battery consumption. By some estimates, in the US alone, 3B+ batteries are disposed of every year!  With improvements in ultra-low power consumption and energy harvesting, connected devices using standards-based wireless technologies can now be battery-free. This talk will discuss the end-to-end system design of such wireless solutions, focusing on power consumption and energy harvesting for a variety of applications.


Srenik Mehta is SVP of Engineering at Atmosic Technologies where he leads teams responsible for Atmosic’s ultra-low power and energy harvesting BLE and 802.15.4 SoCs.

Prior to joining Atmosic in 2020, Srenik was Director of Hardware Engineering at Google where he led teams responsible for wireless technologies (Cellular, WIFI, BT, GPS, etc) and system performance and power optimization for Pixel phones and wearables. Srenik’s experience at Google gave him a unique perspective on building cutting edge devices with an emphasis on end-user experience.

Before joining Google, Srenik was Senior Director of Systems Engineering at Qualcomm through Qualcomm’s acquisition of Atheros Communications. Srenik held various roles during his 14+ years at Atheros and Qualcomm including Sr. Director of Engineering in the Mobile Business Unit leading digital design, algorithms and FW teams as well as Sr. Director of Analog/RF Design Engineering. While at Atheros, Srenik presented one of the first single chip wireless LAN papers at ISSCC 2005 titled, “An 802.11g WLAN SoC.”

Srenik earned his MS and BS degrees in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley. His Master’s work was under the guidance of Professor Paul R. Gray.
